Loreen meets Human Rights Organisations

Loreen met with human rights defenders during her day with Swedish media in Baku; the meeting was organized by Civil Rights Defenders in Media centre and several local organizations were attended. The most visible one is campaign “Sign for Democracy” who organized several protests recently in order to demand full respect of human rights, particularly freedom of expression. During Eurosong 2012, two of their protests were cracked down by police and their activists were arrested.

Kosovo application for EBU not approved

Kosovo will not be joining  EBU neither take part in the Eurovision Song Contest for now. Kosovo broadcasting station RTK requested to join EBU in order to be able to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, since they find the competition “key to build up Kosovo international status”.

The rejection was justified since Kosovo does not belong to the International Telecommunication Union, the specialized agency of the United Nations which is responsible for information and communication technologies, which membership is required to be a member of the EBU.

Since Kosovo has been not recognized by the UN cannot be part of the ITU
